Medieval Tower With Terrace In The Heart Of Etruscan Hamlet
Historical 244-sqm estate on three levels with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a 60-sqm roof terrace with a scenic wrought iron spiral staircase
Ancient square tower with double glazing, contemporary finishes respecting the original stone walls, beamed and terracotta ceilings between Maremma and the Etruscan Coast
Set within the compact fabric of the medieval village of Bibbona, which overlooks the Tuscan countryside, this square-plan tower is one of the oldest and most recognisable architectural landmarks in the historic centre: immortalised in a 16th-century painting by Bernardino Sei, alongside the village and local saints, it is now one of the rarest and most fascinating residences available in northern Maremma. The restoration was carried out with great philological rigour and an equal measure of contemporary sensitivity, bringing to light the exposed limestone walls, the ceilings with beams and terracotta bricks, the weathered stone staircases and the barrel vaults in the oldest levels, combining them with double-glazed windows, bespoke furnishings and integrated lighting solutions.
The main floor is the convivial heart of the tower: an elegant, cosy living room, with a fireplace and wood-burning stove flanking a kitchenette and dining area. The lime-plastered walls, antique wooden floors and ceilings with massive beams create a warm and intimate atmosphere. The eat-in kitchen, adjoining the living room via a stone archway, features a natural stone worktop, dark lacquered metal cupboard doors with brass knobs and large industrial pendant lights, creating a successful blend of the old and the new.
A first spiral staircase in wrought iron leads to the lower level, where a stone vault and thick exposed masonry create a setting of rare charm: here you will find the formal study, furnished with leather armchairs and an antique desk, and the wine cellar, equipped for the storage and tasting of wine, with a rough-hewn wooden counter for private tastings. This level is the oldest and quietest part of the tower.
Climbing towards the top, the stairs lead to the sleeping quarters, spread across staggered levels with bedrooms featuring wrought-iron four-poster beds, antique wooden floors and arched windows framing views of the village. Two bathrooms serve the entire sleeping area, with finishes in keeping with the property. The top floor finally opens out onto the outdoors: the roof terrace, measuring approximately 60 sqm, paved with antique bricks and protected by a stone parapet, offers one of the most spectacular views in the area, with the Maremma countryside stretching towards the horizon of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
