Splendid Castle In Florence
Castle in Tuscany
Castles in TuscanyThis enchanting castle in Tuscany is located on a hill facing the valley of the river Arno. Just a few kilometres from the city of Florence, this imposing residence overlooks the roads leading to the county seat of Tuscany.
There are documents testifying the existence of this building dating back to the 10th century: in fact it was then a fortification belonging to the Ghibellini family and was probably built between the years 1000 and 1200. It was subsequently converted into a sumptuous villa which has since been passed on among noble families of the area.
In the 19th century great renovation works were directed by a scholar of the Italian neo-gothic architect, Adolfo Coppedè; the restyling affected the façade and the ancient turret, the original formwork and the thick external “filaretto” stone walls still remain today. Inside the small chapel named to S. Jacopo the walls are frescoed and still preserve a piece attributed to the artist Francesco Granacci.
This property includes a total indoor floor surface of 2000 m2 and still preserves the original basement with the cellar and the oil mill. In addition to the main block of the fortification there are a large farmhouse, used as an annex, and a barn. All around there are 17 hectares of grounds, part woods and part olive grove.
A property unique in its kind for its prestige and incalculable historical and cultural value, that art lovers and all those passionate about Italian history will surely appreciate, located just a few steps from the splendid city of Florence in a unique landscape of privacy and tranquillity.
