Prestigious Villa For Sale In The Province Of Pavia
Luxury villa for sale at the outskirts of Milan
Historical estate for sale in the province of Pavia
This luxury estate dating back to the 14th century and full of wonderful frescoes is for sale in the province of Pavia.
Bought in the early 14th century by an illustrious family, this luxury property for sale has undergone important restoration works that have converted it into a private home, as it still is today, designed with great attention to detail and perfectly refined.
When entering the property through a completely-frescoed entrance hall, we find a garden with four 18th-century statues made of Verona marble depicting the four seasons that were donated to this property's owners, some counts, by Geona's Doges to thanks them for hosting them for long times in this noble and rich Lombard area.
The garden measures 1,000 m2 overall and features a 14th-century Medieval tower which is approximately 30 metres tall; it was used in the past as a watchtower to defend the village from attackers and was then used as an astronomic observatory.
The ancient wall with exposed bricks on the left features a cotto-tiled window dating back to the 14th century and featuring handmade bricks; behind it, there is the armoury.
At the base there is an Etruscan sarcophagus found in the countryside and positioned there, which has been studied and been focus of numerous thesis. It is a world heritage site and protected by the Fine Arts Ministry.
Above, on the same defensive walls, there is a terracotta depiction of the Virgin Mary dating back to Medieval times.
Thanks to an agreement signed in 1815 and wanted by Count Camillo Benso of Cavour, a close family friend, this area's grounds were canalised and converted into fertile rice fields, moreover, another part of the palace was realised. Cavour stayed here for a long time to supervise the works and his room is still as it was at that time.
Mr. Antonelli, a famous architect and colleague of the palace's owners, also stayed here and studies the design and realization of Turin's famous Mole Antonelliana and the Dome of the Cathedral of San Gaudenzio in Novara. In fact, there are still some old churchbells hanging on the brick wall, a donation from the surrounding churches he visited.
As the family had episcopal relations, there is also the room of the Bishop of Milan, who used to visit his family here.
This prestigious villa for sale measures 1,000 m2 overall and is on three floors: the main floor features richly-frescoed rooms with noble furniture, refined living rooms, elegant dining rooms, besides four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
