Majestic estate along Venice's Malamocco Canal
Octagonal 16th-century island for sale in front the Lido island
In Venice's Lagoon, along the Malamocco Canal, there is this octagonal private island for sale, very close to the Lido island.
Strategically positioned close to the most famous beaches of the Lido, not far from one of the most prestigious golf courses in the area, the island is one of the five octagons of the Venetian Lagoon, considered a magnificent example of the defensive architecture of the 1500s, built by the Republic of Venice against Turkish threats.
Re-fortified after the war of Candia and again strengthened in the 19th century during the Habsburg rule, the island was used by the army until the end of the Second World War, when it was bought by private individuals.
The octagon, a unique construction that emerges majestically from the water, boasts a lush park that surrounds the island for over 2,000 sqm, with a fresh water well inside, built by the Austrians and still functioning. A single opening, located to the north of the perimeter walls, represents the only access door. Entering on the left we find a first building of about 55 sqm, currently used as an outbuilding.
From here, a series of paths lead to a paved square, which houses the ancient well in the center, and to the main house which measures 400 sqm and houses eight large rectangular rooms and two triangular ones. as well as a lowered barrel-vaulted walkway.
On the roof of the main building there is a splendid panoramic terrace of over 100 square meters, offering spectacular views of the lagoon and romantic city of Venice. From here, intricate paths run along almost the entire perimeter of the island, connecting the structures to the various green areas of the park.
This exclusive island, an ancient defensive fortification in front of the Lido, in a unique setting in the Venice area, is the dream home for those who want absolute privacy in a context of great historical value, conveniently close to the main services of Venice.
