Architect-designed Historic Estate Overlooking Ligurian Valleys
Monumental period property of 1550 sqm in total, comprising an iconic castle, main villa, two independent cottages and ancillary buildings
Complex designed and built in the 1910s by celebrated architect Gino Coppedè, set within a private park of over 12000 sqm
In the evocative setting of the Ligurian Apennines, nestled between the upper Bisagno Valley and the Scrivia Valley at Passo della Scoffera, stands a monumental period estate of 1550 sqm in total, set within a private park of 12.180 sqm. Designed and built between 1910 and 1914 by the celebrated architect Gino Coppedè, commissioned by entrepreneurs Carlo and Giacomo Becchi, the complex is a work of inestimable historical and artistic value. The property comprises an iconic 464 sqm turreted castle, an imposing 684 sqm main villa, two independent cottages and ancillary buildings, with a total of twelve bedrooms, nine bathrooms, frescoed reception halls and expansive terraces. The exceptional versatility of this estate, restored to its original beauty through careful conservation work, allows it to be enjoyed as an elite family residence or used as a prestigious venue for high-profile events and refined hospitality a short distance from Genoa.
The architecture of the entire complex is among the most mature expressions of the medieval dream and eclectic style of Gino Coppedè, renowned for blending Romanesque, Renaissance and Liberty elements. The main villa extends across three floors above ground, in addition to a semi-basement level, and houses rooms of rare elegance. The ground floor opens with an entrance hall leading to private sitting rooms and a formal dining room with finely frescoed coffered wooden ceilings and precious wooden floors. The sleeping quarters on the upper floors include seven bedrooms served by three bathrooms, enriched by large terraces offering open views over the park's greenery. The semi-basement level comprises a kitchen with pantry, a convivial room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and technical plant rooms.
The turreted castle forms the theatrical core of the property, shaped in accordance with the canons of medieval manors, with turrets, battlements and walkways. The raised ground floor includes an entrance cloakroom, a reception hall with a period fireplace, a sitting room and bathrooms with an anteroom. The staircase, set within the tower, is dominated by a striking spiral staircase inspired by natural forms and leads to the upper levels, where a further reception hall, two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a private terrace with direct access to the upper walkway of the tower are arranged. The interiors are enhanced by white marble capitals and small columns, solid wood window frames and an imposing period chandelier, bearing witness to the aristocratic taste of the early 20th century.
Completing the residential estate are the two independent cottages: the 237 sqm castle cottage and the 149 sqm main villa cottage, accompanied by 88 sqm of warehouses and storage rooms. This arrangement of four residential units and a commercial events area ensures complete management autonomy for each building. The estate is set within a fenced park of over 1,2 hectares, divided between a planted garden with centuries-old species and arable land, enhanced by stone avenues, period gates and rustic service buildings that recreate the atmosphere of a small medieval courtyard, private and protected from outside scrutiny.
