Designer Castle Overlooking The Hills Of Monferrato

Situated at the foot of the Monferrato hills, this neo-Gothic villa-castle, built in 1928, is an architectural and decorative masterpiece of extraordinary integrity: designed by the renowned Piedmontese architect and leading figure of Turin’s Art Nouveau movement, Giovanni Battista Carrera. Spanning eight storeys to a height of approximately 30 metres, with a total floor area of 662 sqm, it retains its original furnishings and stained-glass windows, silk-upholstered walls, painted decorations and Murano glass chandeliers: a collection of artistic commissions that few Italian buildings of the 20th century can boast. The castle is surrounded by a crenellated boundary wall and features a private chapel, a historic 300-sqm roof garden, and a panoramic terrace on the 32-metre-high tower offering a 360-degree view of the mountains and the Po Valley. It is listed by the Turin-Piedmont Film Commission as a prestigious set and location for film productions and high-fashion shoots.

The ground floor houses the Sala Blu, a room of great character with stone flooring and painted decorations, two guest bathrooms and the garage. The crenellated perimeter and the external staircases lead into the property: each entrance is visually striking and dramatic.

The first floor is the level with the greatest historical and artistic significance within the residence. The living-dining room, the dining room, the kitchen, a bathroom and a small sitting room are arranged around the private chapel. The inlaid doors, the silk-covered walls with painted decorations, the leaded windows with geometric and figurative patterns, and the glass and wrought-iron chandeliers create a reception floor of museum-quality craftsmanship, crafted by renowned local artisans.

The second floor features a sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom. The third floor comprises two bedrooms, a bathroom and a sitting room: rooms of great intimacy and atmosphere, with parquet flooring, decorated walls and arched windows that frame the surrounding landscape like an antique painting.

The fourth floor comprises two bedrooms and a bathroom; the fifth floor features a bedroom with a small balcony offering a privileged view of the roof garden and the Monferrato hills. The sixth floor features a small study with a small balcony. The eighth and top floor is entirely taken up by the tower’s 360-degree panoramic terrace, at a height of approximately 32 metres: an exceptionally striking space with the Alps to the north, the Po Valley to the south, and the Monferrato hills on the horizon.
