It features two swimming pools, a 1.5-ha lush private garden and 2.5 ha of olive groves.
The Tiber Valley, or Valtiberina, is a geographical area that stretches from Emilia Romagna to Lazio, passing through Tuscany and Umbria, a place rich in art and history, with villages and hamlets overlooking Lake Corbara and the surrounding countryside. It is characterized by a gentle landscape, with low hills, cultivated fields and boundless views. Layered in culture, from the Etruscans to ancient Rome, the Tiber Valley is also known for its fine wines and luxury gastronomic products, such as the famous White Truffle.
Set on an enchanting panoramic hill on the outskirts of Todi, this property, currently used as an accommodation facility, has 3 levels and measures 850 sqm; it is divided into 3 adjacent and separate buildings: the main villa, the ancient church and the annex. The sleeping area is houses in the main body and the annex, and offers a total of 8 richly decorated bedrooms with furnishings that refer to the tradition and classical historicity of the Abbey. Wooden furnishings and richly decorated fabrics, antique terracotta floors and wooden ceilings with exposed beams tell the story that the property has experienced since the 13th century. In the living area, this splendid estate offers 7 large living rooms, 4 kitchens and numerous stone fireplaces. Every room of this property is enriched by wonderful stone arches that separate the spaces and big panoramic windows from which you can enjoy a magnificent, boundless view of the Tiber Valley.
Documented in the canonical books for the payment of the Tithe since 1275, the Abbey was an important administrative center of the Church for Todi and Orvieto and was owned the noble Clementini family of Amelia until the end of the 18th century, when ownership passed to the assets of the Episcopal Seminary of Todi.
Witness to the centuries-old tradition of the relais is the ancient Benedictine church, which retains the same structure dating back to the early 11th century. With the austere stone facade adorned with a Romanesque portal, a small central bell tower and a small window, the building is now used as a modern art gallery and relaxation area. It is characterized by a typical Romanesque apse composition and the texture of the masonry in filaretto ashlars, typical of the 11th century, and by the wooden ceiling with a truss roof, supported by magnificent exposed beams. The jewel of this small church is the 16th-century fresco preserved in the apse, depicting the crucifixion and created by Giovanni di Pietro, a pupil of Perugino. In this room, the contrast between ancient tradition and modern art is wonderful and fascinating, helping to create an elegant and refined atmosphere of timeless luxury.
Outside, immersed in the enchanting 1.5 ha garden protected by tall pines, oaks and beech trees, there are numerous panoramic terraces, relaxation areas and light lunch areas from which to enjoy an unparalleled view of the valley and the surrounding hills, ideal places to organize large private events in a picturesque and exclusive setting. Here, protected by large stone solariums, are the 2 swimming pools of the Abbey, one with an irregular teardrop shape, and a larger and more panoramic one. The property includes 2.5 hectares of olive grove, used for the production of Umbria's green gold: extra virgin olive oil.
This wonderful historical estate for sale in the province of Perugia, converted from an authentic 13th-century Abbey in the hills of Todi, is a one-of-a-kind property, and represents the ideal investment both as a private residence and as an accommodation facility.
