17th-century Castle With Stables For Sale In Ivrea, In Piedmont
Ancient castle of the noble Savoia and Monferrato families for sale in Ivrea
Noble castle by architect Chevalley, with a park and stables for sale in Ivrea, north of Turin
This ancient seventeenth-century castle of notable elegance, designed by architect Chevalley, is for sale north of Turin, on the hills that lead to Ivrea, in Piedmont. Immersed in an ancient village and vast green areas, this exclusive castle, which belonged to the noble families of Savoy and Monferrato, measures 2,960 sqm on three floors, surrounded by a 2-hectare park with centuries-old trees and horse stables.
Located on the top of a southern hill of the Morainic amphitheater of Ivrea, its origins presumably date back to the 12th century or perhaps even to the year 1000. Through various events, changing ownership between the noble families of Savoy and Monferrato, over the centuries it suffered fires and lootings. In the 19th century, Count Alexander Compans of Brichanteau, whose coat of arms can still be found on the facade today, began an extensive transformation, completed in 1925 by architect Chevalley who modified the original structure, transforming it into a stately home.
Architect Chevalley radically renovated the castle, eliminating the typical horseshoe structure thanks to the construction of a Tower, a spectacular loggia and the entrance hall. He built greenhouses, aligned the facades to give uniformity to the eastern one, and enriched them with heraldic decorations, preserving the ancient scarps of this seventeenth-century castle.
The castle, with 2,500 sqm of internal space on 3 levels, houses a large reception room, a majestic living room with billiards, a library, a dining room, a kitchen, two bedrooms and bathrooms. All rooms are characterized by splendid antique fireplaces and baroque-style finishes with tall windows overlooking the magnificent park of the property on all sides. A majestic marble staircase leads to the second floor, dedicated to a sleeping area with three apartments and a chapel, accessible via a wonderful arched corridor. The main tower features spacious bedrooms, bathrooms and a splendid panoramic roof terrace. The basement is intended for the armoury, a kitchen for events and a wine cellar.
In front of the main entrance, there is a magnificent terrace overlooking the gardens, ideal for hosting outdoor relaxation areas and areas for open-air dining. The orangery is located under the terrace, facing the Italian garden. A 70-sqm annex, at the entrance to the villa, serves as the caretaker's house.
The property, with a surface area of approximately 2,960 sqm, includes over approximately 2 hectares of land, with Italian gardens and a private centuries-old forest. Here you can walk and enjoy privacy, admiring a magnificent panoramic view of the hills. The grove leads to the second entrance, where there is an area used for horse riding, also perfect for hosting special events. The elevated position offers spectacular views that vary with the seasons, making this medieval castle an authentic historical jewel of inestimable value.
