The Prestigious Villa Chandon, Near Amalfi
Wonderful property dropping sheer down to the sea in the bay of Conca dei Marini
Renowned sea-front estate by the Amalfi Coast
Villa Chambon, a prestigious sea-front property with panoramic views of the sea, located in the bay of Conca dei Marini, near Amalfi, is for sale.
The property was born from the merger of an ancient factory of nets and ropes, dating back to the 1600s, with the house of a fisherman, which was first purchased and renovated in the immediate postwar period by Riccardo di Sangro, of the well-known Neapolitan dynasty, owner of the great palace of Ravello. It was he who commissioned Coco Chanel, who in those years frequented the Amalfi Coast, to design his refuge by the sea. She therefore took care of designing the floors and majolica cladding of the rooms. At the end of the 1950s the villa passed to Sandro d’Urso, a well-known international lawyer, who acquired the old factory next to the villa and then entrusted the entire renovation to the Spanish architect Julio la Fuente. The villa still retains the large room in which the ropes were worked, transformed into a spacious hall. Here, Jacqueline Kennedy and her children stayed on vacation as guests of Mr. d'Urso. This elegant villa was then sold to the Chandon family, owners of the famous champagne brand, who made it their summer home.
This luxurious property enjoys absolute privacy, with double access: by sea, just 10 minutes by boat from Amalfi, and by land through a staircase that starts from the main road. Retracing the magnificent villa from sea level, we find a mooring place for boats and a sunbathing-platform. Going up a few steps we reach the first room intended for staff and about 15 steps down there are two bedrooms with a bathroom. Continuing up, there are three suites with bathrooms and on the upper level there is a 120-sqm terrace paved in white ceramic, offering a breathtaking view of the sea. At the same level there is also the 25-meter long lounge with a bar corner and a space dedicated to relaxation, with inevitable armchairs surrounding the fireplace, offering a pleasant meeting point even in winter. This wing of the house is completed by a kitchen, a bathroom and another access to the sea with a shower. To embellish the property, there are terracotta floors, majolica and antique pieces of furniture in wood and iron that give a welcoming and exclusive atmosphere.
