Castle For Sale In The Province Of Ragusa
Majestic castle for sale in Sicily, near Ragusa
Charming castle for sale in the centre of a town of the province of Ragusa
The Castle dei Naselli d'Aragona, one of the most important historical buildings in Comiso, is for sale in the province of Ragusa.
Located in the heart of Comiso's town centre, the Aragonese Castle shows itself with its spectacular architectural style, with beautiful details and decorations that give it a great cultural depth.
The probable construction of the Castle took place around the 12th century, thanks to the testimonies of various documents of the 13th century that mention its presence. Before belonging to the Naselli family, this noble estate belonged to the Cabrera counts, who lived here for over 50 years. It remained the residence of the noble Naselli family for a long time until, in 1693, a devastating earthquake caused extensive damage to the structure, forcing its inhabitants to leave it while waiting for the renovation, which took place only several years later. In 1841 the structure passed under public ownership, which transformed a part of it into a theater, while the rest was used for the construction of prisons, until it was sold to another Sicilian aristocratic family, the Nifosì, who settled in this enchanting mansion.
Although a large part of the Aragonese Castle of Comiso was destroyed in the earthquake of 1693, it is still possible to admire several remains dating back to the early years of the last millennium, as well as having numerous documents that clearly describe the original structure. At the time, it had a drawbridge that guaranteed protection, isolating itself from the territory in front. On the right of the current building, it is still possible to admire the most historic part, represented by a baptistery that proudly houses several frescoes dating back to the Byzantine era. On the north side there is an eighteenth-century Loggia with frescoes depicting landscapes and animals. The internal gardens offer an enchanting setting, with several fountains from the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, which blend perfectly with the surrounding greenery.
