17th-century Villa In Gambassi Terne
Charming 17th-century villa for sale in Tuscany
Historical villa in a panoramic position for sale in Gambassi Terme
This charming 17th-century villa for sale is in a panoramic position near Florence and frames the small rural hamlet that surrounds it.
In ancient times this was certainly a “passing point” for the Etruscans, as it is on the road going to Volterra, and for the Romans, as it is close to the Via Clodio, between Siena and Lucca. In the Early Middle Ages, many travelers also passed here, along the Via Francigena, including Sigeric, Archbishop of Canterbury who wrote an account of his journey through Italy and mentions Gambassi's Church of Santa Maria in Chianni a few years before 1000.
This hamlet was owned by the Bishop of Volterra until 1970, and suffered a lot of damages from Piccinino's soldiers in 1430 and 1554.
This villa was built in the 17th-century by the Rinuccini, a senatorial family from Florence, who lived here in summer and also used it to administrate their lands. Around 1815, it was inherited by the Capponi Marquises from Florence. At that time, HRH the Granduke of Tuscany was a guest here with his entourage. In 1834, it was part of the dowry Marquis Attilio Inontri obtained when he married Lady Ortensia, daughter of Marquis Gino Capponi.
The original property included thousands of hectares and was stretched over an area that had the Era and Elsa rivers as opposite points. Over the centuries, this estate became an example of a perfect farm, but this wasn't enough to avoid splitting it up, until it was renovated and brought back to its old splendour by its current owners in 1998.
This property measures 4,000 m2 overall, and is composed of a 1,200 m2 main villa and fourteen apartments, all with a wonderful view of the surroundings.
Its rooms are in the typical style found in Tuscan noble homes and features big, bright halls with original cotto-tiled floors and coffered or arched ceilings.
This hamlet is surrounded by a park measuring approximately 120,000 m2 that also includes natural areas, a lake with swans and ducks, and another studded with waterlilies. The park is also home to a private swimming pool so that you can enjoy the quietness of this place.
Those looking for an exclusive property in a private, quiet area in the countryside, will surely appreciate this charming historical villa for sale.
