Veneto Cortina

It’s difficult to know which human lasting presence installed oneself first, nevertheless we have a document dating back to 1156 which certifies the purchase by brothers Giovanni and Paganelli of a plot of land in the territory that then was called Ampezzo del Cadore.
The valley of the Dolomites result object of Roman aims and so we know because in this zone today speak “Ladin”, a language gets from different dialects. After the fall of the Roman Empire short news were on the story of Cortina d’Ampezzo. In this period it is remembered for the invasion of Longobard and Frankish guided by Carlo Magno.
Around the XVth century began the period of the Venetian domination with which the tie of Cortina has always been tight thanks to commercial trade.
The first fundamental development of the city is attached to the opening of the international street of Alemagna in the XIXth century and in the XXth century, between the World Wars the first cableways were built. These elements involved a high population growth and the development of the winter tourism: in this way in 1956 Cortina hosted the winter Olympics and its fame increased.
