Lake Iseo

The city of Bergamo is one of the main cities of Lombardy and is divided into two parts: the Città Alta (upper city) which is on a high position and encircled by walls, and the Città Bassa (lower city) which is also full of historical parts but has been modernized by urbanization works. The town is also called “the city of the 1000” thanks to the many inhabitants who participated in Garibaldi's mission during the Risorgimento.
Bergamo is full of monuments attracting millions of tourist every year; the most important are Piazza Vecchia (old square), the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, the Colleoni chapel, the Palazzo della Ragione and the city's old walls which in the past protected Bergamo's lands against its enemies.
