This prestigious palace for sale is in the province of Perugia, located inside Assisi's historical centre and only 200 metres from the Basilica of Saint Clare.
This absolutely exclusive place was born as an ancient Roman settlement dating back to 75 BC, of which it still preserves several finds and spaces of historical value that have been carefully brought back to life.
The most relevant discovery is in the rooms on the Western side: it is an extraordinary flooring made in the last decades of the 1st century BC, decorated with coloured insertions creating elegant geometrical designs. There is a mesmerizing view over this estate's lower-ground floor, where it is possible to see the wonderful rooms found during renovation works.
This palace has seen the likes of several guests, owners, and illustrious dwellers such as cardinals, counts, and members of noble Umbrian families, while the square opposite the palace is where St. Francis laid aside his garments in front of his father and started his religious life.
The “piano nobile” of this outstanding estate was once home to Cardinal Bartolomeo Roverella and includes a big number of richly decorated halls. An extremely elegant and refined space adorned by majestic 16th-century frescoes and Murano chandeliers, this is the perfect venue for ceremonies and gala events. Climbing the flight of stone stairs connecting the Roman rooms to the “piano nobile” is like leaping forward in time, a leap of fifteen hundred years that takes us from ancient Roman walls to stunning frescoes.
This palace's mesmerizing cellar includes more than one thousand labels from all over the world.
The two styles, Classical and Renaissance, found in this ancient noble estate's rooms make it even more elegant and are combined with the functionality and comforts found in a modern property designed with great attention to detail: an extremely welcoming and adaptable place.

Located in a strategic position between important art cities such as Florence, Rome and Siena, Perugia is one of the most charming cities in Italy, with its five historic districts enclosed by ancient Etruscan walls. Most of the historical, artistic and urban origins of Perugia go back, however, to the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Assisi was founded by the Romans (who called it Asisium) as witnessed by several monuments such the façade of the Temple of Minerva, the Amphitheatre, the city walls, and the Forum.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, the town became a Gothic settlement and was then conquered by the Lombards.
During the Middle Ages, it became an independent commune and grew rapidly, especially thanks to the monastic orders. The most famous of Assisi's residents, Saint Francis, was born in 1182. Francis was made Saint in 1228, just two years after his death, by Pope Gregory IX.
Perugia and the lovely villages around it are home to fabulous luxury villas scattered between the walls of the town and the leafy countryside.
