This marvellous historic estate for sale is located in the heart of Tuscany set between hills covered with vineyards and olive groves, a short distance from Siena.
The hamlet is surrounded by 160 hectares of land which has a typical Tuscan feel. The property is divided into a classic main Tuscan villa with annexes composed of farmhouses representing exclusive properties which are a great addition to the estate.
Just think of the nearby town of Casole d'Elsa, a delightful medieval town located 50km from Florence and 20km from Siena in an enviable position in Tuscany.  The property has been in the hands of the current owners since 1919.
The nucleus of the main villa for sale near Siena is dated to the XVI century and is therefore unique in its genre not only for its timeless beauty but for the fascinating historical significance it transmits.
The historic residence was completely restored in 1920 and has maintained its original Tuscan architectonic characteristics and all the historic and artistic characteristics including XVI century frescoes attributed to the painter Beccafumi.
Next to the main villa the hamlet extends around it and is composed of different buildings: one is used as a school, another a chapel, some farmhouses and other structures that used to be stables but are now storage areas, a garage and cellars where wine is kept.
The wonderful property in Tuscany is surrounded by a large park with a classic driveway lined by cypress trees.
The villa itself is about 2500m2 in size while the additional structures amount to roughly 3000m2. An additional two farmhouses are located a short distance away which can be included in the sale. They are currently used by the custodian and for rural activities including a barn, horse boxes, cellars and for conserving olive oil.
The luxury property in Tuscany was originally built for the Agostini family and was used successively by the famous Piccolomini Clementini family who went on to sell the property to the current owners family.
One of the most exclusive properties near Siena it is located at 650m above sea level, in a hilly setting where breathtaking views of a beautiful Tuscan landscape can greet you every morning. It is noteworthy to mention the lake and the numerous fresh water springs next to the property.

Tuscany Siena

Casole d'Elsa is a small municipality in the province of Siena with roughly three thousand inhabitants and is historically a land dividing regions in Tuscany: the town was contested since the beginning of thirteenth century, initially between Volterra and Siena, and later inevitably involving the war between the  Guelfi and the Ghibellini. After a year of Florentine control Casole was included indefinitely into Siena's domain after the battle of Montaperti.
The present day aspect of the town attests to the long ongoing rivalries which interested it, evidenced by the perimeter walls anf the fortified Rocca Senese which is the seat of the present day town hall.
A town based on agriculture and tourism, specialised in the cultivation of vines, olives and cereals.
A must see is the splendid  Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, its museum and the archaeological museum.  The extensive surrounding woodland is of particular environmental importance and is composed of  Berignone Forest and the woods of Montagnola Senese.
The ancient castle of  Casole d'Elsa is testified to from the beginning of the XI century as an important power base for the Bishops of Volterra in a territory disputed between them, the Senese and the Florentines.  After passing into the hands of the Senese following the battle of Montaperti (1260) the town was enlarged with new fortifications.  From the XVI century the fate of Casole was intertwined with that of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and so the new Italian state.  The town was badly damaged as the fighting front of the second world war passed though it in June 1944.
Its history is remembered every year during the Palio of Casole, a horse race on beaten earth called “Roman style” or “alla lunga”, with staggered starting points and finishing lines.  This event attracts many tourists who pass their holidays in Tuscany in areas around Siena, visiting nearby towns with curiosity to see the traditional events and festivals  which are unique to them.
Another important event is the Presepe Vivente di Casole (translated literally as the “Living Nativity of Bethlehem”) which is an important and accurate reconstruction of the nativity of Bethlehem two thousand years ago and which has brought the town many accolades including “best nativity in Italy” and “city of the nativity”.
