Tuscany Grosseto

The charming village of Civitella Paganico located on the border between Grosseto and Siena, in an area of great importance from the environmental poit of view, because of the beauty and peculiarity of the countryside, thaks to the presence of green hills and the valleys of the river Ombrone .
The town of Civitella Paganico offers many attractions such as the Abbey of San Lorenzo, a building situated in the highest area of the town and it is in pure Romanesque style and today it is the municipality house. Very important it is also the parish church of San Michele, religious building dating back to 1300 with a bell tower, there are many paintings and frescoes such as a fresco of St. Christopher and a painting that represents the Madonna and Child with Saints. Certainly fascinating the architectures that are located outside the town of Civitella Paganico such as Casenovole Castle, of medieval origin and the Castello di Monte Antico, possession of the Ardengheschi family; important is the Abbey of San Lorenzo al Lanzo, originally the building was a castle and only later it became an Abbey.
From the historical pioint of view, the territory of Civitella Paganico was colonized by the Etruscans and Romans, who built the original settlement. Later the territory became an important possession of the Lombards, the family of Ardengheschi, of the city of Siena and of Florence. The real birth of Civitella Paganico as common it was only in the course of 1926, when the villages of Pari, Casal di Pari and Civitella Marittima were unified under a single administration, under the new town of Civitella Paganico.
